The Satilla is considered one of the most scenic of the slow-moving rivers in south Georgia. Conveniently located between the 252 and 17 bridges, May Bluff can be a one-night stop on a leisurely two day 25 mile paddle between the two bridges, a two day fish n’ drift from either bridge, or the base camp for a multi-day sandbar hop on the upper river. There is nothing better than a hot shower, an ice cold drink, and a nice mattress at the end of a long day on the river. No matter what you choose, be sure to step out and take a look at Magnolia Bluff, a virgin Beech-Magnolia seepage forest overlooking the river one mile north of the 252 bridge.
There are several canoe outfitters in the area that will be happy to do anything from organizing your entire trip to simply renting canoes or assisting with shuttles.
